This weekend is not only significant because of Easter but also because of ANZAC Day. While I will not be there for the dawn service, I felt it appropriate this weekend to share some images I took a couple of years back of Melbourne’s Shirne of Remembrance.

For the last couple of months I have not had the chance to grab the camera and get up early to capture those lovely sunrise photos. Nor have I been able to get out late of an evening to watch the sun go down. The question is why?

Well the answer to that question is because on the 2nd February, my wife and I were very fortunate to welcome our first child into the world – Dylan Thomas Ridley.

Here is hoping I can find the time soon to get out their and capture some beautiful landscape photographs, but for the time being my camera lens will be focused on Dylan!

How one little photo can generate so much debate

As I do regularly each month I post one of my images in the Australian Photographic Society (APS) folios for comment by fellow photographers. This month I posted an image that I thought would be classified as a landscape image but I quickly found out it is not.

Before I made it back into the forums to check what feedback the image had received, emails were sent to the APS folio members reminding them of what a landscape photo really is and provided the offical definition. I had no idea that it was the above image which triggered this debate and the need to send out the rules once more. Too many man made elements in this image, so it is not a landscape but instead is a cityscape.

I did not mean to trigger the debate over the the forums and will be more careful next time. Regardless of it being a landscape or a cityscape, it still looks stunning blown up and hanging on a wall!!!

Unfortunately I did not make it down to the Great Ocean Road this Christmas as I try to do most years, so instead I decided to dig out one of my favourite photos from this region which I took a couple of years ago just to remind me what I was missing.

Almost finished processing my diving photos from Fiji and I really loved this image with all the samll fish in the foreground and then some large fish lurking in the background. Can anybody tell what type of fish he is?

Underwater Bliss

A couple of weeks ago I was fortunate enough to be in Fiji on holidays so I could not resist the opportunity to go diving (and I actually managed to squeeze in 12 dives which was awesome).

Underwater photography is certainly a challenge compared to my normal landscape photography and I have not yet got the hang of things, but at least this time I got a few shots that I was relatively happy with.

Over the coming weeks when I finish processing the remaining holiday photos, I will post a couple more underwater shots for your viewing pleasure.
